The relationship between good governance and statistical information is of critical importance and Stats SA provides a set of indicators of national development that provides the basis for this relationship. As Mr Trevor Manuel, Minister for National Planning Commission said, "I like good news. I like to tell good stories about how well we are doing as a country. But please don't give me what I like, give me what I need, because part of what I need to do is to help deliver democracy to people who have waited for it to touch their lives. Government needs good statistics..
The launch of the Statistics South Africa results for Census 2011 was held on 30 October 2012 at the Sefako M Makgatho Presidential Guest House. The event hosted His Excellency, Mr JG Zuma, President of the Republic of South Africa, Mr Trevor Manuel, Minister of Planning Commission , the Statistician-General Mr P Lehohla to name a few.
Global Access played a primary role in broadcasting the event live on our private channel on Dstv to 9 statistics SA offices across the country, as well as facilitating the media discussion between the 3 media venues i.e. Bisho, Cape Town and Pietermaritzburg and the host venue. This allowed Statistics SA the ability to broadcast the results to a national audience, but to also speak directly to their staff on a private channel. Working closely with one of our partners, Global Access also assisted with all of the Audio-Visual requirements at the various venues across the country.
The event was a huge success with compliments to our team coming from various government officials. It is evident that live broadcasting can have a huge influence on how corporate and even government departments can communicate with its stakeholders by using Global Access and its leading technology solutions.
